What we've been up to

2016 has been good (and challenging) for us.  On February 2nd I was finally able to have surgery to repair all the damage I had done to my knee on July 4th, 2015.  10 days following my original injury I ended up in the ER and ultimately Intensive Care with a massive Pulmonary Embolism.  After dealing with blood thinners, Physical therapy and aches and pains all over I am doing SO MUCH better.  I'm able to run again, ride bikes with the kids and pick up on all the things I missed in 2015.  I now know I won't every be jumping off a 2 ft high deck EVER. AGAIN.

As for the kids, they finished first grade in June.  We've had a great, but FAST summer.  We've been swimming, going to the park, riding bikes, running, playing and pretty much enjoying every moment of the summer that we can.

We're headed to MN at the beginning of August for a fun family vacation.  We're going to head to an Twins/Astros game and then camp for the weekend.  This will be our first time camping.... wish us luck!  :-)

Second Grade starts in 4 weeks and this mama's heart is heavy about that.  It just seems time is moving faster and faster.  There are days I want it to move fast... and other days I just pray it slows so I can enjoy more moments.

I hope to provide more updates (and be a better blogger) as we finish summer and move into the fall.

From the brain of a 6 year old

There is this little interview game floating around Facebook that I was ignoring for quite some time.  Then I saw just how adorable some of my friends' responses were so I decided to try it out for myself.

Two thoughts I had when conducting these interviews:
#1. I think they are a bit confused on what I do for a job with Wells Fargo on a daily basis and...
#2. They both scored with #11 and things I have not succeed at in life!

Anyway, Enjoy the thoughts of a couple of 6 year olds!!!!!
1. What is something I always say to you? Birk: 'Yes' Addy: ‘No and yes’
2. What makes me happy? Birk: When I snuggle with you – Addy: Me being kind to you

3. What makes me sad? Birk: when i yell – Addy: Not being nice and yelling
4. How do I make you laugh? Birk: Make funny faces – Addy: Making a funny face
5. What was I like as a child? Birk: Uh, you played with your mom and your sisters – Addy: You might have played with Woozie's toys
6. How old am I? Birk: 34 – Addy: 34
7. How tall am I? Birk: 14 feet tall – Addy: 3 feet actually 4 feet
8. What is my favorite thing to do? Birk: Snuggle with me - Addy: Snuggle with us
9. What do I do when you're not around? Birk: Um clean the house – Addy: Maybe play the piano
10. What am I really good at? Birk: Snuggling – Addy: Cleaning up the house
11. What is something I'm not good at? Birk: Jumping off of a deck. – Addy: Getting me to do xtra math or fighting with us

12. What do I do for a job? Birk: Clean the kitchen floor – Addy: Works at Wells Fargo
13. What is my favorite food? Birk: Meatloaf - Addy: Sushi
14. What do you enjoy doing with me? Birk: Snuggling – Addy: When your knee is better jumping on the trampoline

Happy Friday!

Q&A #2

What song is stuck in your head?  Thanks to my lovely daugher, the Adele 'Hello Again' song won't leave my head.

Was today typical?  Why or Why not?  A typical Monday, for sure.  However today was also a lot of preparation for the next few weeks when I'll be out for the count after my surgery.

Write down something that inspired you today?   My health inspired me.  I want to get back to where I was at physcially before I hurt my knee.  I'm determined!

Today you lost ______?  The weekend.  Monday always feels like I lost the weekend!

What's your favorite acessory?  A hair tie and my chapstick!

Where do you want to travel next?  Mexico -- with some friends.  Then to Disney with my hubs an dkids.

Are you a leader or a follower?  I like to think of myself as a leader, but there are times when it is important to follow.

On a scale of one to ten how was your lunch today?  It was a 5.  Since I've been eating healthier my lunch choices can get a bit boring, but today was ok!

Do you owe someone money?   Don't we all?  Yes, we do owe money!

What's the oldest thing you're wearing today?  My wedding ring!  Almost 12 years I've had this thing on my hand. I don't plan to take it off, well... EVER!

What was peaceful about today?   The snow.  As much as I don't care for bad weather looking out my office window to see the beauty of snow brings peace to my soul.

List three foods that you ate today?  Granola bar, cheese stick and an apple.

Are you holding a grudge about something?  Not that I can think of.  I try not to hold grudges.  I used to, but the thing about grudges is I feel like I'm the one suffering.  So, I do my very best to move on.

What are you looking foward to?  Surgery.  As weird as that sounds (because I'm also nervous) I want my knee to be back to normal.  I want to be able to run again without knee pain and it feeling like my knee is going to give out.  I want to be active with my kids again.

Are you seeking security or adventure?  It depends on the day.  Today.. security!

Do you need a break?  From what?   I just had a wonderful break this past weekend thanks to my sister.  A nice date night with my main man was just what this girl needed.

If you were going to start your own company what  would it be?  I would start a music store.  It's something my husband and I could do together and possible be pretty successful at.

What makes you 'you'?  My sarcasm, my love for music and life and my family!

Weekly Q&A ~ Week 1

For Christmas this year my mother in law gave Nick a book that asks a question a day.  I received a Thankfulness book.  I'm challenging myself to complete this every day!  However, I'm intriqued by the questions in Nick's book so I've decided to try and challenge myself and use this blog and answer the questions in a weekly format!  So here we go!

What is your mission?

My mission is to be the best person I can be.  I want people to see the Light of Christ through me.  I want to be a good wife and mother so that my family is always loved and taken care of.

Can people change?
People can change.  Their hearts can change and thus they can change their behaviors.  Change is hard and can take time, but it can also mean wonderful things.

What are you reading right now?
I am currently reading Home, by Ellen Degeneres.  It's a bood about home design and I'm loving it.

The best part of today?
The best part of today is at 3:15pm.  My kids get off the bus and I get to hear about their days at school (good, bad and ugly).  Then we get an entire family night!

What was the last restaurant you went to?
My Tuesday night Benchwarmers evening.  Every Tuesday Addy has dance and Abbie, Birk, sometimes Tyler, and I go to Benchwarmers for a drink and some free popcorn!

Today is tough because______________?  Today is tough because its the middle of the week.  The beginning is new and fresh and a do-over for some.  The end is exciting as it means the weekend and more family time.  The middle is just the middle!
